The microscope is a marvel of modern science. There’s a lot of engineering that goes into your average scope, but you might be surprised to learn that not all of it revolves around magnifying lenses. These lenses are important, of course, but so is illuminating the image you’re magnifying. That’s something you can’t do without using a microscope condenser.
You can add to the performance of your microscope by replacing the condenser. A darkfield condenser or phase condenser expands the work you can do with your microscope. And if yours is somehow damaged, a replacement helps avoid the cost of replacing your entire microscope rig.
A condenser microscope is one that illuminates specimen samples from beneath, shining light through it and into the objective lens for viewing. The condenser itself is a focusing lens that sits between the light source and the underside of the sample, and it acts to focus this diffused light to illuminate the sample so it can be viewed clearly.
The condenser does its job in conjunction with an iris diaphragm, which sits between the condenser and the underside of the sample. This diaphragm is adjustable, opening and closing to control the amount of light that emerges from the condenser. This, along with the ability of a condenser to be either raised or lowered, help focus the light passing through the condenser and the diaphragm. Whether you’re looking for a diaphragm, a condenser, or both, Microscope.com has you covered!
