Lighting for those who’ve been doing it a long time
If you consider yourself an old schooler, you were probably brought up on halogen bulbs. And there are still always halogen lighting options for you. You love that warm color, and you’re used to looking at samples with that type of lighting.
There are still plenty of halogen options - both on the microscope and in your accessory microscope lights. They’re even available in fiber optic formats below.
But we do have to say it. Your halogen gooseneck lamp doesn’t last as long as an LED light. It’s a minor inconvenience to replace your bulb. But with many units throughout your lab, the cost adds up. Whenever possible, we recommend LED illumination.
Let’s talk LED illumination
LED lights last long and have a low cost of operation.
Most compound microscope or stereo microscope users add an LED ring light to their purchase for added image clarity. Under high magnification, more light is needed to view a sample. The control a user gets from an LED microscope ring light means you get bright images at any magnification.
LED microscope lights are available in multiple configurations, including:
Ring lights with as many as 144 bulbs where users can control the light intensity and the sections of lights that illuminate or stay dark (to highlight specimen features).
Pipe or gooseneck-style, so lighting can be focused directly on specific features for better examination.
Additional illumination for your application
Miniature hobbyists often purchase a halogen lamp because of the daylight appearance and the everyday familiarity of each color under halogen lighting.
Electronics repair technicians tend to purchase flexible LED lights because of the bright field of view they provide, and the ability to spot important qualities in their work more easily.
Lab technicians use ring lights because they’re unobtrusive and flood the subject with cool, bright light for easy imaging.
When they shop with Microscope.com, all of them enjoy the free shipping on orders over $150 and volume pricing on large orders. We bet you’ll enjoy those things too.
