Sperm Microscopes and Supplies
Assisted reproduction is an incredibly personal service for health practitioners who provide it. It's emotional for patients, and a lot is riding on your skills. Choose a microscope that helps you do your job better, so you can provide better patient outcomes and help families grow.
Magnification
1000X magnification allows you to more closely evaluate the quality of sperm and choose the right specimen for insemination.
Light
High-power LED illumination gives you a bright and clear field of view at high magnification, aiding your selection.
Accessories
A stage warmer is a valuable accessory for keeping samples vigorous during your evaluation.

We'd say the most important parts of a sperm microscope are illumination and magnification.
LED illumination is the only choice for a sperm microscope. It's cool and doesn't heat up (see: kill) the sperm in a semen sample. If part of your analysis is sperm motility - and we're pretty sure it is - the unpredictable heat from a halogen light will kill your sperm sample and you'll have to obtain another to see any sperm swimming in the right direction or otherwise.
Local climate control is a better temperature management tool for keeping samples comfortable during sperm analysis.
So start there, then move to some of the things below.
What magnification is best for a sperm microscope
At 400X magnification, you can see a clearly defined sperm cell and make observations about sperm morphology, sperm count, sperm concentration and any other aspect of human sperm (or whatever animal you're interested in).
At 1000X magnification you can make detailed observations about the sperm head or sperm tail, or make more detailed notes about abnormal sperm morphology and other factors related to male infertility.
What is the best microscope for a urologist performing microscopic testicular sperm extraction?
Testicular sperm extraction is a common method of sperm retrieval allowing a man to father a child when a semen analysis turns up no sperm.
A section of testicular tissue is removed and the urologist looks under the microscope for normal sperm. If sperm is found, it can be used for fertilization immediately or frozen and stored for future fertilization.
A compound microscope with 400X to 1000X magnification is ideal when searching for human sperm during the procedure. Cool LED illumination is important to avoid damaging the precious sample when it's found. Infinity Plan optics are valuable for a wide and clear field of view without any visual aberrations.
In general, what's the best microscope for clinics providing assisted reproduction?
In assisted reproduction, the single best motile spermatozoon should be selected, especially when performing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
So making accurate characterizations of sperm nuclear vacuoles is critical (as large nuclear vacuoles in the sperm nucleus are related to poor semen quality and sperm DNA damage).
Identify that motile sperm confidently with an Omano OM139. You won't find a better price on the infinity optics you need for ICSI or general evaluation of sperm production in your assisted reproduction clinic.
